Appearance

Medium green with some slightly darker leaves and light and dark orange pistils, the bubbly calyxes probably love forming into foxtails on the larger buds, though there was only a little bit of that happening on our smaller sample.  What was apparent however was the massively tall and gleaming trichs that covered this sample.  While the majority of the heads were on the clear side of the spectrum, there were some amazing-looking “redcap” ambered trich heads that had a very sharp red color that made it interesting to look at up-close.  This sample was clearly well-handled after harvest, as it was in pristine condition and was allowed to really show off its appearance.  A perfect texture.

Aroma

If you’re never had Durban Poison before, it’s a bit difficult to describe the complex and enticing scent the strain provides… so go try some!  If forced to say more than “it smells like a great Durban”, we’d go with a mix of menthol, candy sweetness, and anise, with a bit of sourness present… in short, it’s a very complex and aromatic mix that fills your head with an intoxicating bouquet of awesome candy goodness.  It’s hard not to like any real Durban’s smell, and this one is no exception… one reviewer commented that this was among the top 3 Durbans he’s ever smelled; definitely top marks here for this fragrant and fairly pungent specimen.

Flavor

Very similar to the smell, the flavor is a combination of candied eucalyptus, anise, and citrus flavors that was universally very appealing to the review team, with high scores all around.  The smoke itself was only a little bit harsh, and really just on the initial hits when all those trichomes were being burned up, and it packed an above-average expansion level and produced quite a bit of smoke.  The only real knock here is that the taste went downhill somewhat quickly, with only the first 2 hits having any taste to speak of, and that the final ash color was a little murky and gray rather than a pure fluffy white.

Effect

(We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Anti-anxiety, anti-depression, anti-fatigue, general relaxation as it wore on, mild muscle tension relief.

Overall

One of the better Durbans in town, this sample was simply stunning to look at, especially up close, where the well-preserved fat-headed trichs displayed all the colors of the doneness rainbow, from clear to deep, almost blood red ambers.  The smell and taste are true Durban all the way, but this one really stood out with its amazingly enticing aroma, which put a big smile on the face of all of our reviewers.  It’s a simply great daytime smoke that if taken in moderation will have a patient feeling great, motivated, and full of energy for a solid 2 hours with almost no anxiety or negative effects.  Though it won’t kill serious pain, it had everyone feeling pretty good and provided an unexpectedly strong and satisfying body feeling.  If you’re a Durban fan, Natural Remedies has a winner.
